Notarization Requirements

IMPORTANT: Please carefully review the requirements. If all requirements are not met, a notarization cannot be performed. I am not an attorney licensed to practice law. I am not allowed to draft legal records, give advice on legal matters, including immigration, or charge a fee for those activities.

  • The personal appearance of the signer is required. The person signing the document must be physically present for the notarization to be valid. For online notarizations the signer must be present and visible. Notarizations cannot be completed if the signer’s presence cannot be confirmed.
  • The person must have appropriate identification. NOTE: Matricula Consular ID is NOT acceptable by itself.  Oregon does not recognize matricula consular ID.
  • Here is a list of accepted identification.
    • Driver License or ID card issued by the DMV or learners permit
    • A United States passport or an officially recognized passport of a foreign country
    • A United States military identification card that contains the person’s photograph and signature.
    • A Tribal ID card issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe that contains the person’s photograph and signature.
    • Other government documents. A document issued by the federal government or a state, county, or local government that contains the person’s photograph and signature.
  • The signer must be aware and sign freely and willingly. I have the right to refuse to complete a notarization.
  • Completely fill out your document. All blank spaces need to be completed or marked as intentially blank or not applicable (N/A).
  • Your document must be intact, readable and free from damage.
  • In-person notarizations: If the document to be notarized consists of more than one page, the entire document will be stapled together, making it a whole and complete document.
